time flies

I know, I’ve been missing in action here for quite a while.
That’s because I’ve been busy (nay, overwhelmed) with a variety of professional commitments:

  • the summer semester of my online course for new/wannabe school librarians;
  • getting the AASL blog up and running;
  • building a toolbar of useful resources for Cybersmart.org;
  • consulting on a new and exciting project for ABC-Clio,

and assorted personal kafuffles, like trying to figure out how to use my new Treo.

Tomorrow, however, begins another excellent adventure as Himself and I fly to Alaska for 2 weeks.   We land in Anchorage, then plan to spend a few days exploring the Kenai peninsula before heading back to Anchorage where I will be doing workshops for the Alaska Association of School Librarians.  When my ‘work’ is finished we plan to drive up to Denali National Park for a few more days of wilderness viewing.

I’ll be keeping a photolog of our travels at http://dayuchts.blogspot.com

F2F vs Virtual conference-going

Oh, the choices…
Why would I want to , when there are so many other wonderful speakers there?

Lee Rainie, Director, Pew Internet and American Life Project will be giving his keynote speech about The Internet: Enhancing Digital Work & Play, in the International Ballroom at 9am on Friday, March 24,
at the very same time that I’m scheduled to present
Using RSS for Really Savvy “Resourcery,” or How Bloglines Made Me Look Brilliant in the Lincoln West room.

I suppose it’s too late (and too tacky) to put together/set up a video of my presentation so that I can see/hear Lee Rainie instead?

Still, I will get to see — and maybe even meet — some of the big names in the biblioblogosphere (see the list at CIL2006 Conference Wiki . FWIW, I’m only at the top of that list of bloggers because it’s alphabetical!).

Meanwhile, I’ll be able to read all the blog-reports from the Public Library Association’s conference in Boston, after I get home from DC on Saturday.

Smile, children!!

“In case you’re worried about what’s going to become of the younger generation, it’s going to grow up and start worrying about the younger generation.”  — Roger Allen  (from Quotes of the Day)

Well, THAT’s a relief !!

In case any of you have been wondering where I disappeared to… well, life got busy, especially with my daughter’s wedding on the other side of the continent.  For pictures of the joyous event — you will notice that yes, EVERYONE looks happy — feel free to explore this 3 page mini-album, while we await the professional photos.

We will soon return to our regularly-scheduled programming.

Weather woes

It’s 17 degrees out, with icy winds up to 40 mph.
Why aren’t we somewhere warm and friendly, dammit?!?!

So, following Laura’s suggestion to

  • Bold the states I’ve been to,
  • underline the states I’ve lived in and
  • italicize the state I’m in now…

here’s my list:

Alabama / Alaska / Arizona / Arkansas / California / Colorado / Connecticut / Delaware / Florida / Georgia / Hawaii / Idaho / Illinois / Indiana / Iowa / Kansas / Kentucky / Louisiana / Maine / Maryland / Massachusetts / Michigan / Minnesota / Mississippi / Missouri / Montana / Nebraska / Nevada / New Hampshire / New Jersey / New Mexico / New York / North Carolina / North Dakota / Ohio / Oklahoma / Oregon / Pennsylvania / Rhode Island / South Carolina / South Dakota / Tennessee / Texas / Utah / Vermont / Virginia / Washington / West Virginia / Wisconsin / Wyoming / Washington D.C /

You can go HERE to have a form generate the HTML for your own list.

Everything old is new again . . .

Classic Millennium Falcon toy reissue
From Wired magazine, as mentioned in Boing-Boing:
Hasbro has reissued its classic line of Star Wars action figures with the flagship Millennium Falcon playset leading the pack — updated with missile firing action and a blue LED thinggum just to prove that it was manufactured this season.
When my son was young, he desperately wanted this toy.  We told him that he could have it if he could spell it (he was/is a terrible speller).  The smart-aleck went to the store and carefully copied down the name from the box on the shelf!  He still has his original Millenium Falcon, proudly displayed in his East Village apartment.
His 30th birthday is in July — should I get him the new one?
